Court Control Given to Tagishimimi no Mikoto


Emperor Kamununakawamimi [Suizei] was the third child of Emperor Kamyamatoiwarebiko [Jimmu]. His mother was called Princess Himetataraisuzu no Mikoto, the oldest daughter of Kotoshironushi no Kami.
The Emperor’s character was of outstanding greatness, and from a small age he exhibited a manly spirit. When he came of age his figure was great, his martial prowess unsurpassed, and his will deeply resolute.
When he was 48 years old Emperor Kamuyamatoiwarebiko died. At that time Emperor Kamununakawammimi had a deep and pure filial piety, and his mourning was unceasing. Especially he put his heart into the funeral ceremony. His half brother Tagishimimi no Mikoto was older, and had more experience at court. Therefore he embraced the entrustment of the realm. However, this prince carried a badness, and was against justice, and subsequently secretly planned his own free rule during the period of mourning and also how to dispose of his two younger brothers.

Imperial Princes Kill Tagishimimi no Mikoto


In the year Tsuchi no To-u, winter, the 11th month, Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto and his older brother Kamuyaimimi no Mikoto became aware of the plan and worked to prevent its fulfillment. After the time of the burial, they made Yumibe no Wakahiko make a bow, and Yamato no Kanuchiamatsumauchi make a deer-slaying arrow, and had the arrow be make arrows.
Then when the bow and arrows were made, Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto wanted to shoot and kill Tagishimi no Mikoto. By chance Tagishimimi no Mikoto was in Kataoka, in an room by himself in a grand bed. At that time Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto said to Kamuyaimimi no Mikoto, “Now is our chance! Words are valuable secrets, and we should be careful. Therefore, I have entrusted my secret plan to no one. As for this deed, Only between the two of us shall it pass ears. I will first open the door, then you fire the shot!” Then they consulted and went forth, and Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto suddenly opened the door. Kamuyaimimi no Mikoto’s hands and feet were trembling, and he could not fire the arrow.
Then Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto seized the bow and arrow his brother was holding and shot Tagishimi no Mikoto. The first shot hit him in the middle of the breast, and again in the middle of the back, and killed him.
Then Kamuyaimimi no Mikoto was terribly embarrassed, and conceded to his brother Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto saying, “I am the elder brother but out of cowardice I could not produce results. Now you particularly had a warrior spirit, and killed someone who was evil to the core. It was excellent! You receiving the charge of illuminating the heavenly station of our imperial ancestors is only natural. I will become your assistant, and attend on the gods of heaven and earth.” He was the descendant of the Omi of O.

Accession of Emperor Suizei


First year, spring, first month. On the 8th day, Kamununakawamimi no Mikoto became the Emperor. The capital of Kazuraki was now known as Takaoka Palace. His mother the Empress was granted the title of Empress Dowager. This year was B.C. 581.
Second year, spring, first month. Princess Isuzuyori became Empress. One writing calls her the daughter of the Agatanushi of Shiki, Princess Kawamata. Another calls her the daughter of the Ohimoro Agatanushi of Kasuga, Princess Itori. She became the Emperor’s wife. The Empress gave birth to Emperor Shikitsuhikotamatamatemi [Annei].
Fourth year, spring, fourth month. Kamuyaimimi no Mikoto died and was buried on the north side of Mt. Unebi.
25th year, spring, first month. On the 7th day. Shikitsuhikotamatamatemi became crown prince.
33rd year, spring, fifth month. The Emperor became ill. On the 10th day of that month, he died. He was 84 years old.

Emperor Annei


Emperor Shikitsuhikotamatemi [Annei] was the Crown Prince under Emperor Kamununakawamimi [Suizei]. His mother was Princess Isuzuyori no Mikoto, the younger daughter of Kotodainushi no Kami. In the 25th year of Emperor Kamununakawamimi’s reign, he became Crown Prince. He was 21 years old.
33rd year, spring, fifth month. Emperor Kamununakawamimi died. In the same year, seventh month, third day, the Crown Prince became Emperor.
First year, winter, 10th month. On the 11th day, Emperor Kamununakawamimi was buried in the tomb atop the hill of Tsukida in Yamato. The same year, the Empress assumed the title of Empress Dowager. This was year 548.
Second year. The capital was moved to Katashio, to Ukiana Palace.
Third year, spring, first month. On the fifth day, Princess Nunasokonakatsu no Mikoto, also called Princess Nunaso, became Empress. By one writing, She was the daughter of the Agatanushi of Shiki, Princess Hae no Kawatsu. By another, she was the daughter of the Sukune of Oma, Princess Itoi. Previously she had given birth to two princes. The first was called Okisomimi no Mikoto. The second was called Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo [Itoku]. It is also said that three children were born, and the first was Tokotsuhikoirone, and the second was Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo [Itoku], and the third was Shikitsuhiko no Mikoto.
11th year, spring, first month. On the first day, Oyamatohikosukitomo no mikoto became Crown Prince.
38th year, winter, 12th month. On the sixth day, the Emperor died. He was 57 years old.

Emperor Itoku


Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo was the second child of Emperor Shikitsuhikotamatemo. His mother was Princess Nunasokonakatsu no Mikoto, granddaughter of Kotodainushi no Kami and daughter of the Prince of Kamo.
11th year of Shikitsuhikotamatemo, spring, first month. On the first day, Oyamatohikosukitomo became the Crown Prince. He was 16 years old.
38th year, winter, 12th month. Emperor Shikitsuhikotamatemo died.
First year, spring, second month. On the 4th day, the Crown Prince became Emperor.
Autumn, eighth month. On the first day, Emperor Shikitsuhikotamatemo was buried in the tomb of Mihotoinohe in the south of Mt. Unebi.
Ninth month. On the 14th day, the Empress was appointed Empress Dowager. This occurred in year 510 B.C.
Second year, spring, first month. On the fifth day, the capital was moved to the land of Karu, to Magario Palace.
Second month. On the 11th day, Princess Amatoyotsu no Mikoto became Empress. By one account, she was the daughter of the Agatanushi Hae of Shiki Irodoide, Princess Izumi. By another account, she the daughter of the Agatanushi of Shiki Futomawakahiko, Princess Iihi. The Empress gave birth to Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine [Kosho]. By one account, he was the Emperor’s mother’s younger brother, Takeshihikokushitomose no Mikoto.
22nd year, spring, second month. On the 12th day, Mimatsuhikokaeshine became Crown Prince. He was 18 years old.
34th year, autumn, ninth month. On the 8th day, the Emperor died.

Emperor Kosho


Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine was Crown Prince under Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo. His mother was Princess Amatoyotsu no Mikoto, daughter of Okisomimi no Mikoto. He became Crown Prince in the 22nd year, spring, second month, on the 12th day of Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo’s reign.
In the 34th year, autumn, ninth month, Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo died.
The next year, Winter, 10th month, 13th day. Emperor Oyamatohikosukitomo was buried at the tomb of Managonotani no Kami in the south of Mt. Ubeyama.
First year, spring, first month. On the ninth day, The Crown Prince became Emperor.
Spring, fourth month. On the fifth day, the Empress became Empress Dowager.
Autumn, seventh month. The capital was moved to Wakinokami, to Ikegokoro Palace.
29th year, spring, first month. On the third day, Princess Yosotarashi became Empress. By one account, she was the daughter of the Hae Agatanushi of Shiki, Princess Nunakitsu. By another account, She was the daughter of Princess Toyoakisada of Yamato, called Princess Oi.
The Empress gave birth to Amatarashi Hikokunioshihito no Mikoto and Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito no Mikoto [Koan].
68th year, spring, first month. On the 14th day, Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito no Mikoto became crown prince. He was 20 years old. Amatarashi Hikokunioshihito no Mikoto became the first ancestor of the Omi of Wani.
83rd year, autumn, eighth month. On the fifth day, the Emperor died.

Emperor Koan


Emperor Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito was the second child of Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine [Kosho]. His mother was Princess Yosotarashi, the older sister of Okitsuyoso, the distant ancestor of the Muraji of Owari.
In the 68th year, spring, first month of Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine’s reign, he became Crown Prince.
In the 83rd year, autumn, 8th month. Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine died.
First year, spring, first month. On the 27th day, the Crown Prince became Emperor.
Autumn, eighth month. On the first day, the Empress became Empress Dowager. This year was 392.
Second year, winter, tenth month. The capital was moved to Muro, to Akidzushima Palace.
26th year, spring, second month. On the 14th day, The Emperor’s niece, Princess Oshi, became Empress. By one account, she was the daughter of the Hae Agata Nushi of Shiki, Princess Naga. By another account, she was the daughter of the Agata Nushi of Tooshi, Isakahiko, and she was called Princess Isaka. The Empress gave birth to Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni [Korei].
38th year, autumn, eighth month. On the 14th day, Emperor Mimatsuhikokaeshine [Kosho] was buried in Upper Waki in the upper part of Mt. Hakata.
76th year, spring, first month. On the fifth day, Oyamatonekohikofutoni no Mikoto became Crown Prince. He was 26.
102nd year, spring, first month. On the ninth day, the Emperor [Koan] died.

Emperor Korei


Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni was the Crown Prince under Emperor Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito [Koan]. His mother was Princess Oshi, thought to be the daughter of Amatarashi Hikokunioshihito no Mikoto.
In the 76th year, spring, first month of Emperor Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito’s reign, he became Crown Prince.
In the 102nd year, spring, first month, Emperor Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito died.
Autumn, ninth month. On the 13th day, Emperor Yamatotarashi Hikokunioshihito was buried in the tomb atop the hill of Tamate.
Winter, second month. On the fourth day, the Crown Prince moved the capital to Kuroda, to Iorido Palace.
First year, spring, first month. On the 12th day, the Crown Prince became Emperor. The Empress became Empress Dowager. The year was 290.
Second year, spring, second month. On the 11th day, Princess Hoso no Mikoto became Empress. According to one account, she was Princess Kasuganochidihayayamaka. By another account, she was Princess Mashita, ancestor of the Agata Nushi of Tooshi. She gave birth to Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru [Kogen].
His consort, Princess Yamato no Kunika, also called Haeirone, gave birth to Princess Yamatototohihayaso no Mikoto, Prince Hikoisaseri no mikoto (also called Prince Kibitsu no Mikoto), and Princess Yamatototowakaya no Mikoto.
His consort Haeirodo gave birth to Hikosashima no Mikoto and Wakatakehiko no Mikoto. The younger brother, Wakatakehiko no Mikoto, became the ancestor of the Omi of Kibi.
36th year, spring, first month. On the first day, Hikokunikuru no Mikoto became Crown Prince.
76th year, spring, second month. On the eighth day, the Emperor died.

Emperor Kogen


Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru [Kogen] was the Crown Prince under Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni [Korei]. His mother was Princess Hoso no Mikoto, the daughter of the Ome Agata Nushi of Shiki.
He became Crown Prince in the 36th year, spring, first month, of the reign of Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni.
In the 76th year, spring, second month, Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni died.
First year, spring, first month. On the 14th day, the Crown Prince became Emperor. The Empress became Empress Dowager. This occurred in the year 214.
Fourth year, spring, third month. On the 11th day, the capital was moved to Karu, to Sakaihara Palace.
Sixth year, autumn, ninth month. On the sixth day, Emperor Oyamatonekohikofutoni was buried in the tomb of Kataoka in Umasaka.
Seventh year, spring, second month. On the second day, Utsushikome no Mikoto became Empress. She gave birth to two boys and one girl. The first was Ohiko no Mikoto. The second was Emperor Wakayamatonekohikoobibi [Kaika]. The third was Princess Yamatototo no Mikoto. Another account says the Emperor’s mother’s younger brother was Sukunahikoogokoro no Mikoto.
His consort was Ikagashikome no Mikoto. She gave birth to Hikofutooshi no Makoto no Mikoto.
His second consort was the daughter of Aotamakake of Kawachi, Princess Haniyasu. She gave birth to Takehaniyasubiko no Mikoto.
The older child, Ohiko no Mikoto, was the ancestor of seven clans put together: The Omi of Ahe, the Omi of Kashiwade, the Omi of Ahe [different characters], the Yamanokimi of Sasaki, the Kuni no Miyatsuko of Tsukushi, the Kuni no Miyatsuko of Koshi, and the Omi of Iga. Hikofutooshi no Makoto no Mikoto was the grandfather of Takeshiuchi no Sukune.
22nd year, spring, first month. On the 14th day, Wakayamatonekohikoohohihi no Mikoto became Crown Prince. He was 16 years old.
57th year, autumn, ninth month. On the third day, Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru died.

Emperor Kaika


Emperor Wakayamatonekohikoohohihi [Kaika] was the second child of Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru [Kogen]. His mother was Utsushikome no Mikoto, the older sister of Utsushikoo no Mikoto, the distant ancestor of the Omi of Hozumi.
He became Crown Prince in the 22nd year, spring, first month of the reign of Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru. He was 16 years old.
57th year, Autumn, ninth month. Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru died.
Winter, 11th month. On the 12th day, he became Emperor.
First year, spring, first month. On the fourth day, the Empress became Empress Dowager.
Winter, tenth month. On the 13th day, the capital was moved to Kasuga (Kasuga is read ka-su-ga, 箇酒[我鳥]), to Izakawa Palace (Izakawa is read i-za-ka-ha, 伊社箇波). The year was 157.
Fifth year, spring, second month. On the sixth day, Emperor Oyamatonekohikokunikuru was buried in a tomb atop the island in the pond of Tsurugi.
Sixth year, spring, first month. On the 14th day, Ikagashikome no Mikoto became Empress. She was a stepmother. The Empress gave birth to Emperor Mimakiiriibikoinie [Sujin].
Previously, the Emperor had taken Princess Take from Tamba as his consort. She gave birth to Hikoyumusumi no Mikoto. By another name, Hikomusu no Mikoto. His next consort, the distant ancestor of the Omi of Wani, Hahatsu no Mikoto’s older sister Princess Hahatsu gave birth to Hikoimasu no Miko.
27th year, spring, first month. On the fifth day, Mimakiiriibikoinie no Mikoto became Crown Prince. He was 19.
60th year, summer, fourth month. On the ninth day, the Emperor died.
Winter, tenth month. On the third day, he was buried in Kasuga, at the tomb of Izakawa no Sakamoto. By one account, it was the tomb of Saka no Ue. He was 115 years old.
